REEL SEXY: BLUSH

Release Date: April 5, 2012 / April 2012 (International)
Available at MAC Cosmetics

MAC Magenta Blush

Magenta | Bright Magenta | Matte | $20 US, $24 CAD | Permanent | 6g

This is like a vibrant plum-pink on my skin.  I absolutely love this blush.  It’s pigmented, it’s matte, it’s completely Brown Girl Friedly (for fair and deep skin).  Maaaaybe I’m biased, but I think it’s stunning on dark skin!  Zero complaints with this blush.  It’s easy to work with and it applied smoothly for me.   It’s incredibly pigmented so a little goes a very long way, especially if your skin is fair.

MAC Pink Cult Blush

| Pink Cult Mid-tone Dirty Neutral Pink | Matte | $20 US, $24 CAD | Permanent | 6g

Mid-tone pink-beige.  This was a warmer shade than I expected.  It’s a great option for ladies NC40/NW35 and lower who want a neutral blush with a hint of pink.  On my NW45/47 skin?  Not so much.  It was way too light for me, but it applied very smoothly.  It reminds me of Strada blush.

LOVES:
* Both blushes apply very well with a brush.  They’re smooth and didn’t drag on my skin or feel stiff.

LOATHES:
* For this collection, I wish the second blush option was a bit more pigmented and more colourful.  Pink Cult is a nice, subtle blush (if you can wear it), but I found it  a bit unremarkable for such a bright, vivid collection.

FINAL WORD:
Magenta is the clear winner for being Brown Girl Friendly.  It’s easier for a wider range of skintones to wear than Pink Cult is, which is more flattering on fairer skin.

REEL SEXY: Eye Kohl Review, Swatches, Photos

MAC Reel Sexy Eye Kohls

Our main feature – a cinematic drama starring Ms. Kristen McMenamy, supported by an entire cast of limited edition beauty products – sublime! Rave reviews all around!

REEL SEXY: EYE KOHL

Release Date: April 5, 2012 / April 2012 (International)
Available at MAC Cosmetics

MAC Reel Sexy Eye Kohls

| Smolder Intense Black | $15 US, $18 CAD | Permanent | 1.3g

Deep, matte black kohl pencil.  This is a permanent item, so nothing new here.  Just good, ol’ faithful Smolder.

Resort | Deep Amethyst Plum | $15 US, $18 CAD | Limited Edition| 1.3g

This is a warm, plum-purple colour with a subtle sheen.  It’s nicely saturated, but it reminds me of so many other purple pencils, though.

| Heirloom | Highly Metallicized Greyed Lavender| $15 US, $18 CAD | Limited Edition | 1.3g

Silvers don’t flatter me, but even still, this is a bright, warmed silver.  I didn’t see any hints of lavender at all.  It’s unique because MAC has no other silver pencil.

| Hyacinth | Mid-tone Blue | $15 US, $18 CAD | Limited Edition| 1.3g

Mid-tone blue is accurate.  It’s brighter than I expected, but I much prefer Petrol Blue pearglide for it’s intense and saturated cobalt blue colour.

LOVES:
* These all apply like butter!  Nice & smooth; no dragging. They all smudge easily like other MAC Kohls do.

LOATHES:
* Nothing, really.  I wish there was a high metallic gold Kohl to go with the silver.

FINAL WORD:
All nice kohls.  No real complaints.  The unreal silkiness of the Pearlglides have completely spoiled me, so even though these Kohls are as awesome as they’ve always been, they don’t seem as spectacular anymore.

REEL SEXY: Creemsheen Review, Swatches, Photos

MAC Reel Sexy Cremesheen Glass

Our main feature – a cinematic drama starring Ms. Kristen McMenamy, supported by an entire cast of limited edition beauty products – sublime! Rave reviews all around!

REEL SEXY: CREMESHEEN GLASS

Release Date: April 5, 2012 / April 2012 (International)
Available at MAC Cosmetics

MAC Private Screening Cremesheen Glass

| Private Screening Mid-tone Peach | $19 US, $22.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 2.7g

Light peach with a slight hint of orange.  Meh.  I’d take it or leave it.  It’s a cute peach shade to put over a lipstick, but the colour pay off wasn’t enough for me.  For a nude-ish lip, I can see this being much more flattering on NC42/NW40 and lower.  Boy Bait is slightly more pink.

MAC Cinestyle Cremesheen Glass

Cinestyle | Mid-tone Blue Grey Violet | $19 US, $22.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 2.7g

Well…. it’s light lavender…… and pale.  Yup.  If you’re into light lavenders, give this a shot.  I’m not in love with the colour at all (ever), but it would probably look pretty over Pink Popcorn.  However, on it’s own?  Huge pass.

MAC Colour Saturation Cremesheen Glass

| Colour Saturation | Dark Cool Wine | $19 US, $22.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 2.7g

“Dark cool wine” is a perfect way to describe this little gem.  I loved that it was surprisingly pigmented and saturated (the name suits it well!) for a cremesheen.  It’s a beautiful, deep berry shade.  It seems kind of intense for a spring/summer collection, but it’s nice nontheless.

MAC Star Quality Cremesheen Glass

| Star Quality | Bright Orange Coral | $19 US, $22.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 2.7g

This is a peachy orange shade with pink undertones.  It’s like the cremesheen version of Watch Me Simmer. The colour is fun and easy to throw on.  It’s more sheer (like most cremesheens are), but I didn’t mind.  I think this will look great on most skin shades, from light to dark.

LOVES:
* The pigmentation of Color Saturation.  It looks the smoothest out of all the cremesheens.
* The creamy formula is the same we expect from Cremesheen Glasses

LOATHES:
* The other 3 cremesheens colours didn’t stand out to me as being “cinematic” or “daring.”  They weren’t spectacular enough to catch my attention.

FINAL WORD:
Pass pass pass.  I’d have to say that Star Quality is the most universally flattering, Brown Girl Friendly shade out of the bunch.  My personaly favourite was Colour Saturation.  The formula was perfectly fine on all 4, but overall, I expected more “drama” out of this cinematic-themed launch.

REEL SEXY: LIPSTICK

Available at MAC Cosmetics

MAC Reel Sexy Lipsticks

| Heroine | Bright Violet Purple | Matte | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

Uggggh! This lipstick is purple perfection.  It’s very pigmented and a very vivid, true violet.  It’s not too blue; it’s not too red… it’s juuuuust right.  And Hi, it’s matte (well, more like satin or velvet, but I digress).  It applies beautifully and doesn’t drag or leave your lips looking particularly thirsty.  Violetta is lighter, and slightly more pink.

Reel Sexy | Light Bright Coral | Amplified | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

This is a bright, vibrant peachy shade that screams Summer!  Of course, it shows texture and isn’t as vibrant on my lips, but no shocker there.  It’s silky smooth to put on, and has the great color pay off we expect from Amplified lipsticks.   Gotta Dash Sheen Supreme lipstick is a teeny tiny bit more orange, but besides Gotta Dash’s glossy finish, I could barely tell the difference between the two.

| Pink Popcorn | Lavender | Lustre | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

Though this is a light lavender shade, it’s not pale! Praise God.  A lavender that I can actually wear that doesn’t make me look like I snack on flour for fun.   It’s quite sheer, so I had to layer it on to get colour payoff, but I actually liked this one.  It’d be lovely with a plum lip liner like Currant or Vino.  Budding Love is much lighter and pinker. Up The Amp is deeper and more purple.  Dish it Up is more plum.

| Watch Me Simmer | Bright Pink-Orange | Amplified | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

A re-promote from February’s Shop MAC Cook MAC collection, this is still the same vibrant orangey-pink shade as before.  It’s bright and awesome.  Reel Sexy is lighter and much more peach.  Force of Love is much pinker.

LOVES:
* All shades apply very smoothly
* Great variety of bright, on-trend colours

LOATHES:
* If you have darker skin (NC50/NW45 and up), Reel Sexy, Watch Me Simmer, and Pink Popcorn may look best with a lip liner
* Heroine stains the lips quite heavily even after wearing for a few minutes

FINAL WORD:
Honestly, I feel like there’s a lipstick here for anyone wanting some colour this summer.  For me, Heroine was the stand-out lipstick for its unique colour, intense pigmentation, and creamy, matte finish.  Out of all 4 lipsticks, it’s my favourite for being Brown Girl Friendly.
