CHEN MAN LOVE & WATER: LIPSTICK

Available at MAC Cosmetics

Budding Love Lipstick, Force of Love Lipstick

| Force of Love | Vivid Honeysuckle Pink | Matte | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

Warm, neutral, bright pink with a tiny hint of coral.  Honeyscukle is a perfect colour description for this lipstick.  This is a matte lipstick, but it leans towards a satin finish more than a true matte.  The semi-matte finish lets it glide on smoothly with absolutely no stiffness or tugging.  It’s a fun shade to throw on when you want a cute, bright lip, but nothing too drastic.  Party Parrot is a brighter, slightly deeper pink. Watch Me Simmer is more coral-orange.

| Budding Love | Pale Lavender | Lustre | $14.50 US, $17.50 CAD | Limited Edition | 3g

Soft lavender with a hint of blue-pink.  This has a nice sheen and glides over the lips very easily.  Though it’s a Lustre, it’s more pigmented than I expected.  Pale lavender looks deathly on my lips, so I wasn’t a fan of this lipstick, but it felt nice to put on!  I find this shade most flattering and true-to-colour on NC/NW 30 skin and lower.  It starts to look pasty on more pigmented skin.  Saint Germain  is more baby pink and brighter.  Up The Amp is a darker, warmer purple.

LOVES:
* Both shades apply very smoothly

LOATHES:
* Force of Love is not a true matte
* Budding Love shows a lot of texture due to its light, sheer finish

FINAL WORD:
Force of Love is an easy shade to wear and is flattering on a much wider range of skin tones than Budding Love, making it much more Brown Girl Friendly than its counterpart.  On me, Budding Love was not as saturated as I’d hoped, and the milky, light lavender shade was not for me.

  • […] but I actually liked this one.  It’d be lovely with a plum lip liner like Currant or Vino.  Budding Love is much lighter and pinker. Up The Amp is deeper and more purple.  Dish it Up is more […]

Glad I didn’t get Budding Love. However Force of Love is lovely but with the cold weather in the UK and dry lips I just cannot wear it yet. Watch Me Simmer is a much easier wear for me. I have FOL l/g coming so hopefully that will polish the overall look. Mac’s mattes don’t seem to agree with my lips so hoping it’s just the weather! I’ve gone from wearing nothing to glosses to bright lippies.

    • Hey CJ! 🙂 UK in the house! I know exactly what you mean about the cold weather and matte lipsticks. I always use a balm/lip conditioner/primer before any lip products, especially matte lipsticks. Force of Love is supposedly MAC’s “new” matte formula, so it’s quite creamy and smooth to put on. It’s more of a satin finish instead of a dry, traditional, stiff matte. So, it may not be as drying. If you can, definitely check it out in person. You just might like it 🙂 Let me know how you like the lipglass!
